Online time-wasters are all over the internet, luring in unsuspecting people looking for genuine work they can do from home. One time-waster exposed.

So you are a stay at home mom. Times are tough; you need to find a way to earn some extra cash online from the comfort of your own home. You are a reasonably smart person who used to type or do data entry or maybe worked as a secretary for years before having your children. You worked your way up through a company from the ground up, only to leave when you fell pregnant, to raise your family. Re-entry into the workforce hasn't worked out and is not easy in this economy, especially if you have been out of the workforce for some time or run your own businesses from home. You aren't a quitter, you have a will and usually where there is a will, there's a way! Right?

You will try just about anything once. What have you got to lose? You scour through endless masses of get rich schemes online, pyramid selling, freelance websites, taking surveys. You might have even dabbled in some of these or parted with a few dollars to receive start up kits or memberships to websites only to find you spent more than you ever earned. You might have made $10 here or there, but certainly not the $75, $100 per hour being claimed.

You are browsing the blog sites and discover a 'new' site called PixProfit that pays you to type in CAPTCHAs at a rate of $1 per 1000 CAPTCHA. These are those annoying little boxes people have to type in on websites to verify they are human and not an automated software program. Sounds OK, a few dollars here and there will add up. You are a pretty good typist, your speed and accuracy are great...sounding like this could be just what you need? Think again!

Upon signing up for a free registration, you are waiting with high anticipation for your first typing assignment, your first data entry fill-in, not really sure how it all works just yet. You wait, the system is slow, you think to yourself, gee, if this thing pans out, maybe I'll replace this slow computer and upgrade...the screen takes a while, but the first unidentifiable words scramble on the screen in front of you. You start typing what you think it might be, but aren't really sure if you are doing it right. You press on; it will get better with practice. Your typing is a little rusty, but you are getting back into it again. You keep going, a few more words come up, and this must be some sort of practice round to weed out those who can type and those who can’t; those who are accurate, those who are not; those with great skill and perseverance, and those who are time-wasters.

Okay, so you get into a good groove, you are typing faster and faster, the words are becoming more legible...you keep an eye on the income made amount, nothing, you keep an eye on your score, everyone starts at 4, and the best typists are at 0, the worst at 9. Okay, so you are still at level 4, even after you've been typing away for about half an hour. The income may jump to $0.012 cents, $0.089, $0.398 after about an hour; you've been typing for an hour and you only have made $0.40...hmmm, something doesn't seem right. You're sure you are pretty accurate. Maybe I'm not typing correctly, you think. I'll go take a break and come back.

You may return to find your typing level has been elevated to level 0. YES! You did it! Okay, here we go, bring me some cash! You continue typing in right through the night for a few hours more, while everyone else is asleep. This could be easy money for you if you do it at night in your spare time, while the rest of the world sleeps. You take another break, use the restroom, grab a snack or drink to keep you going...you return and shake out your aching fingers that have been out of practice for years, and resume typing. You notice your income has jumped to $0.897! Wait! I've been typing for hours and I only have $0.89?

You also notice your typing level has dropped from first place 0 to a 6! How can this be? Something must be wrong with this slow computer. You log out and log back in again. Wait, I can't log back in? You try again... nope, nothing, you can't get back in to the site. Maybe they are down for maintenance. You catch some sleep and come back to it in the morning...Success, your login works; you have made a staggering $1.293 and remain at level 6 after typing most of the night away...hang on a minute...

Remember on this site you won't be paid until your balance reaches $3...I don't know how or why data entry operators and typists fall for these websites.

Upon further inspection, some of the typing on the website is misspelled. It doesn't look like this payday is going to come any time soon.

My advice is to move on and don't waste another second of your precious time on this website. A very disappointing experience and one to be avoided at all costs.

Tips to Avoid being scammed by these types of websites:

* If websites are offering lower than minimum wages, $7.25/hr, for your services, move on

* Websites requiring a signup fee or Kit fee are to be avoided - Legitimate opportunities don't require workers to part with their own money

* Check the website for misspelled words, or missing contact details etc. Legitimate companies will provide their name, address, phone number, email address to their workers and often have mentors who will help you get started

* Check online blogs about the website, complaints, comments from others who have used their services
